Idris Elba (“Luther”) is in talks to play the hero in the long-gestating “Dark Tower” movie for Sony Pictures and Media Rights Capital, says Deadline.
Based on the story by Stephen King, the Nikolaj Arcel (“A Royal Affair”) directed film would pit Matthew McConaughey’s villainous Man in Black against Elba’s heroic gunslinger.
Javier Bardem had once been in talks for the role.
“The Dark Tower” will be followed not only by a series of movies but also a spin-off TV series – that’s the plan, anyway.
Ron Howard, long attached to direct the film, remains on as a producer.
