Ricardo Montalban, the Mexican-born actor whose regal bearing and sonorous voice led to roles as science-fiction villain Khan in “Star Trek II : The Wrath of Khan”, the host on the mysterious “Fantasy Island†and pitchman for the “soft Corinthian leather†of the Chrysler Cordoba, has died. He was 88.
Montalban, who in more recent years has played ‘Grandpa’ in Robert Rodriguez’s “Spy Kids” movies, has worked with a bevy of top-name talent (including Lana Turner and Shirley MacLaine) but never quite achieved the status of other in-demand leading-men because of Latin-American heritage (He once tried out for a part of a Mexican, only to lose out to American actor John Garfield).
Kirk’s greatest adversary…. gone. May he rest in peace.
Patrick McGoohan, best known for his role in TVs “The Prisoner”, has also left us.
The 80-year-old actor died Tuesday in Los Angeles after a short illness, his son-in-law, film producer Cleve Landsberg, said.
McGoohan won two Emmys for his work on the Peter Falk detective drama “Columbo,” and more recently appeared as King Edward Longshanks in the 1995 Mel Gibson film “Braveheart.” It was his role as Number six in “The Prisoner” that we all remember him best for though.
