Is Law & Order headed for TNT, Or the scrap heap?

Shockwaves rippled through Hollywood earlier this week when NBC announced that they’d be dropping the successful long-running drama “Law & Order” – and, of all times, a season shy of the series breaking a record! Had the Dick Wolf-created legal drama stayed on air for another season it would’ve been the longest-running drama on Television (at 20 seasons it ties with “Bonanza”).

Wolf’s cheesed with NBC for dropping the original “L&O”, but his frown may soon be turned upside down. Word via Deadline is TNT have expressed interest in picking up the discarded series. It’d be a costly exercise, but it could possibly be a win-win for both Wolf and the network – who also saved both “Law & Order : Criminal Intent” and “Southland” when NBC decided to toss those into the garbage compactor.

Thing is, TNT are so far denying talk that they’re out to nab “L&O”, with network rep’s telling The L.A Times that they’re not “in ongoing discussions about picking up the series for first-run episodes.” I’m sure that’s just a smokescreen until someone puts something in writer, and someone else hands over a bag of freshly-rolled Benjamin’s.
