Jim Cameron’s next 3D epic to be helmed by…Shawn Levy

Shawn Levy (“Cheaper by the Dozen”, “Night at the Museum”) will direct the “Fantastic Voyage” remake for Twentieth Century Fox, according to Deadline.

The James Cameron produced fantasy adventure, which will be in 3D and “almost exclusively CGI”, tells of a team of scientists who were miniaturized and injected into the body of a dying scientist. Joe Dante would later use the basis of “Fantastic Voyage” as the blueprint for his 1987 comedy “InnerSpace”.

Levy’s next film is the Hugh Jackman-starring Boxing Robot movie “Real Steel”; one would assume that’s the film that got him the job on “Fantastic Voyage” not “Night at the Museum” (though I suppose that one did prove Levy can work with little folks – in this case, Cowboy Owen Wilson’s).
