Jonathan Rhys Meyers joins espionage thriller

Jonathan Rhys Meyers will star in real-life espionage thriller “Damascus Cover”.

Based on Howard Kaplan’s best-selling 1977 novel, the pic follows a veteran spy sent undercover in Syria to smuggle a chemical weapons scientist and his family out of Damascus. But it’s not long before his routine mission unravels to reveal a string of murderous conspirators.

Daniel Berk will direct with filming kicking off this week in Morocco. Olivia Thirlby, John Hurt, Igal Naor, Jurgen Prochnow and Navid Negahban co-star.

Berk penned the script with Samantha Newton. Hannah Leader will produce for Bog Book Media.
