Attention all “Pokemon” fans!
An all-out bidding war has erupted over the rights to a live-action “Pokemon” movie, reports THR.
The outlet reports Thomas Tull’s Legendary Entertainment is attempting to out-bid early favourite Warner Bros, with Sony also in the mix.
It’s rumoured that the film will be based on the story-lines from the iconic game and anime series which featured Game Boy classics like Pokemon Fire Red.
The catch is, Legendary is owned by Chinese parent company Wanda. The Pokemon Co. – who own the “Pokemon” rights – is a Japenese company, and past tensions between the Chinese and Japanese threaten to “raise a stir” should Legendary win the rights.
Of course, a deal hasn’t been done yet, so the tensions may be avoided all together should another company take the rights. Stay tuned for updates as they come.
