Tyler Perry – and not Idris Elba as reported by Deadline last August – will star as detective/shrink Alex Cross in a reboot of the film series that kicked off in 1997 with “Kiss the Girls”.
Morgan Freeman played the role of Cross in both “Girls” and it’s follow-up, “Along Came a Spider”.
According to Variety, Rob Cohen (“XXX”, “Fast & Furious”) will direct the film, penned by James Patterson (writer of the Cross novels) and Kerry Williamson.
The film begins shooting in June.
