Mahoney joins the Army

Steve Guttenberg’s big movie comeback?

Steve Guttenberg scored himself a sizeable kinda comeback on TVs “Veronica Mars” in recent times (remember him? he played the Mayor, Woody), but now it looks like the former “Police Academy” and “Three Men and a Baby” icon (well, admit it, he IS an icon!) is set to reinvade the big screen – – – which is really what it’s all about, right?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Guttenberg has joined the cast of the Jessica Simpson comedy – we didn’t say he’d be making his comeback in a good movie, just a movie – “Major Movie Star”.

The pic, directed by Steve Miner (“Day of the Dead”), is the story of Megan (Simpson), a somewhat clueless movie star who impulsively enlists in the U.S. Army Reserve after discovering her boyfriend is gay and her cousin/accountant has stolen all her money. Think “Private Benjamin” without the talent up front and the gags, I’m guessing.

Guttenberg will play the controlling agent Sidney Green, furious at her for enlisting.

At one stage they were talking about doing another “Police Academy” movie, with Guttenberg again starring, but that seems to have dissapeared along with Bubba Smith’s acting career.
