Mark Harmon is retiring Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

Though it was previously reported that the legendary actor would be cutting back on the show, now in its 19th season, tonight’s episode of “N.C.I.S” confirmed Harmon is leaving the building.

At the end of the episode, Gibbs decided he was staying in Alaska, where he has been the last few episodes.

While it’s possible Gibbs might appear down the line, Harmon is no longer a regular cast member. The actor remains on as an executive producer.

“As an executive producer and dear friend, Mark continues to be an integral part of the fabric of the show”, ”NCIS” executive producer Steve Binder began, via a statement. “Our north star has always been staying true to our characters, and that truth has always guided the stories we tell and where those characters go.

“So regarding the future of Gibbs, as long-time fans of the show may have noticed over the years… never count Leroy Jethro Gibbs out,”, Binder concluded.
