After two failed (commercially, anyway) attempts, you can’t blame Marvel for holding off on making another ‘Hulk’ movie. But with the success of “The Avengers”, and the popularity of Mark Ruffalo’s incarnation of the character (well, and Bruce Banner) in it, the studio have had to rethink their stance on whether a stand-alone ‘Hulk’ movie should be attempted again.
Speaking to EW, Marvel’s Kevin Feige suggests a new “Hulk” movie is in development, and he believes the strength of such a film relies not so much on the computer-generated title character but in Mark Ruffalo’s performance as alter-ego Bruce Banner.
”Mark could stand in his own movie. … We’re talking about it. We’re excited to sit down and go, ‘What is a stand-alone Hulk movie?’”
Ruffalo’s slightly older than his predecessors Edward Norton and Eric Bana, in terms of ‘Banner’ players, but Feige believes age has nothing to do with it. 45-year-old Ruffalo could bring it for years, if need be.
“If anyone could be a great 55-year-old Hulk, it’s Mark so I’m not worried about that.”
What the new “Hulk” film won’t be is a live-action take on comic “Planet Hulk”, says Feige.
”What we’re excited about exploring and expanding is Mark — and Banner’s not in Planet Hulk at all. The fun of the Hulk is his interaction with humans”.
