Matt Reeves remaking They Live!?

“Cloverfield” and “Let Me In” helmer Matt Reeves will direct a flick based on the short-story “8 O’Clock in the Morning” by Ray Nelson.

You’ll recall Universal Pictures had previously used “8 O’Clock” as the basis for John Carpenter’s “They Live”, which tells of a man (Roddy Piper) who awakens to discover aliens are living among us and with the aid of special glasses can tell who’s an E.T and who isn’t. The glasses will not be used in this new film – nor Piper.

“I saw an opportunity to do a movie that was very point-of-view driven, a psychological science fiction thriller that explores this guy’s nightmare,” Reeves told Deadline. “There could be a desperate love story at the center of this. Carpenter took a satirical view of the material and the larger political implication that we’re being controlled. I am very drawn to the emotional side, the nightmare experience with the paranoia of Invasion of the Body Snatchers or a Roman Polanski-style film.”

Strike, an arm of Universal, is housing the project – just as they did the prequel to John Carpenter’s “The Thing”.
