Mel Gibson’s Summer Vacation movie retitled!?

Just had an email from resident Mel Gibson fan and talented up-and-coming screenwriter, Chris Lindsay, who tells us Mel Gibson’s “How I Spent My Summer Vacation” has been retitled “Get the Gringo”. We’ve confirmed the title change with the film’s local distrib, but can’t be sure every territory will carry the new title or whether it’s just the international title.

The film looks good and does have an interesting premise – A career criminal (Gibson) nabbed by Mexican authorities is placed in a tough prison where he learns to survive with the help of a 9-year-old boy – but considering the failure of Gibson’s last film “The Beaver” (though terrific) and the public’s opinion of the actor/filmmaker, anything the filmmakers/studio can do to put bums on seats, like add a slicker title to a movie, is a good move.

You guys think it’s a better title?
