Zemeckis doing Barefoot Bandit film

“Back to the Future” director Robert Zemeckis is in talks to direct “Taking Flight: The Hunt for a Young Outlaw”, which David Gordon Green had been previously attached to direct. “The true story centers on 18-year-old Colton Harris-Moore, who became a cult hero for a string of crimes that baffled local police, Homeland Security and the FBI. Known as the “Barefoot Bandit” due to his preference to prowl without footwear, Harris-Moore is considered a modern-day Robin Hood, with his exploits gaining tens of thousands of fans on Facebook.”

“Creek” reunion on “Apartment 23”

James Van Der Beek tries to organize a “Dawson’s Creek” reunion in the season opener of “Don’t Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23”. At this stage though, only Busy Phillips has signed on to guest appear.

Catherine Kenner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, James Gandolfini, Ben Falcone, Eve Hewson and fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson have joined Fox Searchlight’s untitled Nicole Holofcener project, which began shooting in Los Angeles Monday. ”The script centers on a divorced soon-to-be empty-nester (Louis-Dreyfus) who meets the embodiment of her perfect self (Keener). After regaining confidence vis-à-vis her new placement in life, she enters into a new romance with a like-minded man (Gandolfini). Things get complicated, however when she discovers her new love is the other’s woman’s ex.”

Norman Mailer movie at HBO

Stephen Schiff (“Wall Street : Money Never Sleeps”) is writing, for HBO Films, a movie about Norman Mailer’s relationship with prisoner Jack Abbot, the man who helped him with his award-winning book “The Executioner’s Song”.

“Nebraska” Bound

“Big Love” star Bruce Dern and funnyman Will Forte are locks to star in Alexander Payne’s “Nebraska”. Dern plays “a crotchety alcoholic dad who receives a pro forma sweepstakes letter in the mail, thinks he’s struck it rich and wrangles his underachieving son (Forte) into taking a road trip to claim the fortune.”

Rourke for “Sin” and “City”

Mickey Rourke is in talks to reprise the role of Marv in Robert Rodriguez’s “Sin City : A Dame to Kill For”. In addition, the actor is on the verge of signing on for Albert Hughes’ “Motor City” with Gerard Butler.

“The Beach” coming to TV

Fox is turning Danny Boyle flick “The Beach” into a TV series. Writer Andrew Miller (“The Secret Circle”) says of the pilot script, “It’s about a group of young people feeling disconnected and disenchanted from society who try to start over in paradise but discover that while creating the perfect world is hard, protecting it is even harder”. The 2000 movie starred Leonardo Di Caprio and Tilda Swinton.

Wang’s Joy Basketball Club

“Joy Luck Club” helmer Wayne Wang will helm “Brave Dragons”, ”a film based on Jim Yardley’s new book about an NBA coach who moves with his wife to the Chinese industrial city Taiyuan to coach the Shanxi Brave Dragons, one of the worst teams in the Chinese Basketball Association.” Jonathan Prince will write.
