Michael Dowd and Tiller Russell – The Seven Five

photo75About three decades ago Brooklyn, New York was the heart of the crack cocaine epidemic in addition to being the murder capital of America, and the police officers – who were being paid to clean up the streets, and protect the residents of New York City, of Brooklyn – were leading the crime epidemic. While Brooklyn’s residents were fearing gangs, the cops were stealing from them, and like every good crime organization a fearless boss is needed to run the company. For the 75th precinct that leader was Michael Dowd. Finding the subject matter extremely interesting, director (Outlaw Empires, Kidnap and Rescue) Tiller Russell set out to make a movie about the high-profile scandal surrounding the 75th.

Featuring raw testimonials from Dowd, and his former partners Kenny Eurell and Chickie , “The Seven Five” highlights this tale of scandal from the perspective of the police officers who were responsible for it. I had the chance to speak on the phone recently with Dowd and Russell. The conversation was very interesting and intense at times as they spoke to me about making the film, and the most emotional scenes for them to film. To hear the call click the link below, “The Seven Five” will be released in select theatres in New York City beginning May 7th, 2015. The film will open nationwide in select theatres beginning May 15th, 2015.
