Michelle Williams to play Challenger astronaut

Michelle Williams stars in VENOM

With Neil Armstrong biopic “First Man” looking to rake up big greenbacks at the box office, no surprise to learn Hollywood’s already gearing up to head back into orbit.

Michelle Williams (star of this week’s “Venom”) will play late teacher-turned-astronaut Christa McAuliffe in “The Challenger” for director Martin Zandvliet.

On the morning of Jan. 28, 1986, the Space Shuttle Challenger took off from Cape Canaveral and exploded shortly thereafter, killing all seven crewmembers, including McAuliffe, a high school teacher from New Hampshire who was selected to join NASA’s Teacher in Space Project.

McAuliffe, you’ll recall, was honored posthumously with the Congressional Space Medal of Honor.

Jayson Rothwell penned the screenplay for the film, which is eyeing a spring 2019 lift-off.
