Moore joins YA adaptation Darkest Minds

Mandy Moore, currently riding atop of the broadcast charts with “This is Us”, will star in Fox’s adaptation of “Darkest Minds”.

Jennifer Yuh Nelson, known for the “Kung Fu Panda” movies, is directing the film based on the YA trilogy by Alexandra Bracken. Amandla Stenberg stars in the film.

“Night at the Museum” helmer Shawn Levy produces the teen sci-fi project.

Set in an America where a pandemic has killed most of the children and teenagers, the story tells of teens with superpowers who are taken from their families and placed inside internment camps.

Stenberg is playing Ruby Daly, a 16-year-old with telekinetic powers who escapes her camp and joins a group of teens on the run from the government.

Moore, whose other credits include “A Walk to Remember” and “Tangled”, will play an altruistic doctor and fervent member of a crusade that wants to put a stop to the persecution of the children.

The film shoots in Atlanta shortly.
