Moviehole MailBag – 22/2/06

Episode: “The One with the Weeksy”

Hey there Boys & Girls. Weeksy is back for another round of mailbag fun this week, while “Hollywood Movie Star” Clint Morris takes some much un-deserved R&R. He’ll be back on deck next week, so for any more questions that float through your minds, you can send ‘em Clint@moviehole.net here. Oh, don’t forget to check out Megacon this weekend where Jim Cliffe’s ‘Tomorrow’s Memoir’ screens. More details here.

Q. Any word on an Austin Powers 4 anytime soon? Mr. Myers hasn’t been seen for a while. -Rick
A. Well, short version, they’ve been talking about another “Powers” instalment ever since “Goldmember” came out back in 2002, when the working title of “Shag Another Day” was being thrown around for a little bit, but it seemed to die off a bit until late last year, when Myers started talking up his Keith Moon pic, and started the ball rolling again. Last I heard, there may be a new “Austin” in the works for release late 2007.

Q. Sentinels are in X3 per this post. I got tip on SHH Boards Just figured you should get it before a few other sites pick it up. – Corona Realtor
A. It’s been denied and denied and denied again, but the rumours keep on coming around for the “Sentinels” appearing in the next “X-Men” flick. Are they in the Danger Room? Are they in the climax of the film? Where were the red lasers coming from in the last teaser? I know there are a few set visits coming up from some of our buddies in the U.S. shortly, so maybe they’ll have a bit more info for us, but until then….. who knows?

Q. Hi, Stumbled upon your mailbag & read what you said about Lucas Haas. So sorry to disagree with you but suggest you see his latest, “Brick”. He’s not the lead – that would be Joseph Gordon-Levitt – but Lucas does a fantastic job as The Pin (you’ve got to see the movie to understand what that means). I’ll check back to see what you think.
Have a great day.
– Liz
A. Clint, make sure and cry yourself to sleep at night over the next week for your shoddy reporting. Dammit.

Q. Hey, I use the site for any movie info I need it’s great. I was wandering if there was any word on a Doom II movie, also any more info on Alien V, Alien vs. Predator II, and Jurassic Park IV. Thanks in advance. – Jake Harris
A. Jake, two definites there, “Jurassic Park IV” is apparently set to go before the cameras next year, with Senor Spielbergo eyeing the Director’s chair again, and unfortunately, the franchise killing continues with “Aliens Vs. Predator 2” coming to cinemas in August of next year. As far as “Doom II” goes, there are rumours of a follow-up coming, but nothing “Solid” yet.

Q. Hey how’s it goin’, I was watching “Kung Pow: Enter The Fist” the other night and I was wondering if Steve Oedekerk was plannin’ on doin’ another one? – Patrick
A. No plans at the moment for another “Kung Pow” flick, but Steve’s been keeping busy with Directing “Barnyard”, and writing “Evan Almighty” – which for all the haters out there, I have heard the script is 100 times funnier than “Bruce Almighty” from people that have read it.

Q. Where DO you find the feb. 15th issue featuring Viggo Mortensen on the front cover that Dian refers to? Is it on newstands or subscription only? Thanks – June
A. What?

Q. Hello,
I so much would like to get hold of a copy of your latest issue (the one featuring Viggo Mortensen).
There are no chances to get it here in Germany. The company that runs the international newsstands in our country doesn’t hold your magazine – I checked with their head quarters.
So would it be possible to order this single issue? And if so, how can it be done, and how much would it be (including s&h)? And how would you want me to pay for it?
Thanks in advance for your answer.
Greetings from snowy Munich
– Evie
A. Am I missing something here Boss? WTF are these people talking about? Evie, I’ll tell you what, let your hair hang down, and send a cheque for $500.00 to:

Q. send me news – Tesfa
A. Tesfa, meet Evie.

Q. Hey Clint, I just have a quick question regarding the 14 disc “Superman” collection. are all the Superman films going to get a directors cut, because a little bird told me that Originally there were two Nuclear Men in “Superman IV: The Quest For Peace” , the original Nuclear Man was played by British actor Clive Mantle. So I was wondering if there going to be deleted scenes or a whole new cut? – E-Daddy
A. Hey bro, I’ve honestly never heard that before, but then again, I’m not a huge follower of the “Superman” films. From what I know, I don’t think that’s actually the case. OK, what I do know, is that the second DVD of “The Quest For The Peace” will feature the original 2hr 14 minute cut of the film, which hasn’t been seen (apparently) since 1989. I’ve heard that it is to the original what the “Special Edition” of “Alien 3” was – very different.

Q. I read you Batman article and was highly disappointed to see that when Carl Urban and Brad Dourif were mentioned along with movies they are known for Lord of the Rings was not included. As an avid fan of the Movies and considering their popularity and awards re’d this should have been included. In fact that is the only way I recognize this two. Please consider making these corrections to your otherwise interesting article.
P.S. Your story was posted on LOR of the Rings site on Google……
– Laura
A. Ummm, I believe that’s actually Karl Urban you’re referring to. I didn’t sit through any of the “Rings” films, so I wouldn’t have mentioned them either. “Child’s Play” & “Bourne Supremacy” would have been my picks….

Q. Hey.
Great site. I have seen pictures and stuff for “Thief Lord” and I was wondering if it was going to come out world wide ,or is it only going to come out in Germany and those countries. Thanks a bunch.
– Sam
A. Should be trickling through the various countries throughout the year. Expect it here in Oz late 2006, but it may be on DVD when it arrives.

Q. In April of last year you had an article about “Top Gun” being re-released for 2006. Has anybody heard when this is going to happen? I have heard that it has already released in California any truth to this? – Ernie
A. Yeah, there’s been a couple of screenings in Cali so far this year, and I know the plan is to do a world wide re-release in May, so lets wait and see.

Q. G’day Clint I just read that Daniel Craig has lost some teeth when he was doing a stunt on the set of “Casino Royale” on the 19th Feb. Have you heard anymore about it thanks. – Smurf
A. Yeah Smurf, it’s very much true. Apparently he was filming a fight scene and one of the guys accidentally connected with a punch that shattered a few teeth. He had his Dentist flown out to Prague so that he could get some caps put on, but it’s all good now.

Q. With the current success of Freddy Vs Jason and Alien Vs Predator. It would be great to see a movie version of my favourite video game when I was in my teens many moons ago. Robocop Vs The Terminator. I used to play it all the time when I had a Megadrive. Any ideas what’s happening with that, or is it still in development hell. Also do you know when The A Team season four is due out on DVD? – Cyberdyne Systems Model 101
A. You’re not actually coming out of left field with this one. It was thrown around for years, and I mean friggin’ years that “Robocop vs. Terminator” was heading towards the big screen, but nothing ever eventuated. I read a script for it back in the late nineties that was a great idea, but it was very obviously written for Peter Weller & Schwarzenegger, and I can’t see them signing up for it anytime soon. “The A-Team” season 4 is coming out on DVD in April in the U.S., but there’s no UK release date set just at the moment.

Q. I know she is old as hell now… but I almost wish your mention of a ‘Shannon Tweed Watch’ was real. Oh,
by the way, I hear there is going to be a remake of George Romero’s Day of the Dead. Do you know if it will be a sequel to the Dawn of the Dead remake? Or will it be just a simple unnecessary remake?? If so, will George Romero’s original script be used? That is one of the best unfilmed scripts of all time.
-Paul
A. Jeez, so do I. I don’t care how old Shannon is, she is friggin’ hot dude. Steve Miner (“Halloween: H20”) is in the chair for the “Day” remake, and it is going to be a sequel to the recent “Dawn”. I know they are trying to get Ving Rhames, Sarah Polley & Lindy Booth to reprise their roles, so I’m thinking George is only gonna get a story credit on this one.

Q. Any updates on the Police Academy remake or sequel. -Rick
A. I actually heard about this the other day for the first time. I really like the original, so I’m not sure what to think about the latest one. I can say that I thought Steve Guttenberg was the best part of the original films, and apparently he’s back on board for this one. Hugh Wilson, who directed the first film is reportedly back in the seat for this one, and it’s rumoured to start filming in Australia later this year. I don’t know man, if they can get back to making a real funny 80’s style raunch-fest like the original or a “Stripes” kind of deal, it could be good.

Q. I haven’t heard anything about who Topher Grace is playing in “Spiderman 3”, but there are rumors of him playing Venom. Can you tell me what role does he have in the movie? And is there anything new on the “Spawn” animated series? -Menace
A. Well, everyone seems to be saying that Topher is Venom in the new film, and it’s gotten some people really angry. Here’s what I think: I reckon he’s in there as Eddie Brock, and it’s gonna be a CGI Venom taking over after the transformation – but that’s just me. Sorry dude, no word on “Spawn” just at the moment.

Q.Hi Clint,
Hope you’re well. I wanted to let your readers know about the call for entries for the new international Conflux Art Show and Fantastique Film festival and Contest. Both the art show and film festival will be the largest of their kind and submissions must be in by 27 March and 31 March 2006, respectively. I believe it’s something your readers would be really interested in.
-Susan
A. It wouldn’t be a Mailbag without a nice plug in it, so head on over and check it out.
