Moviehole MailBag – 30/11/05

Special Appearance by Clint Morris as ‘Gus’

It’s that time again where we rip them open, gaze away, and offering an interesting retort. No folks, not the Annual Venice Beach Wet T-Shirt Regatta, but the Moviehole MailBag!

Hey mate,
I know I’ll probably get shit on for this, or even worse … Ridiculed by you. I am generally excited about the new “Rocky Balboa”, because I’m a big bloody Rocky fan. Please mate, please! Tell me this is going to get a theatrical release because I’ve read otherwise on boxofficeprophets.com, but I’m not sure whether or not it was just a throwaway line.
PS. Eric Bana for Best Male Actor for Munich (Oscars)
Sam

Hey mate,
Nah I wouldn’t dare ridicule you about Rocky. That’d be low dude. Not my style. I don’t get pleasure out of that bud….hey, hang on…what’s this…the dude from ‘Full Frontal’ with a shiny statue? P’oiter? Right after the lifetime achievement award goes to Peter Moon? Ahem. Oh, but back to your “Rocky” query – “Rocky 6 : Die or Retire” – it will indeed be getting a theatrical release. Can’t say the same about the long-awaited “Rhinestone” sequel. (Just quietly – I’m actually kind of interested to see it myself, I hear the script is as solid as Brigitte Nielsen’s left buttock.)

Hello!
Seeing how “The Chronicles of Narnia” will be released next week, I want to ask you about another big fantasy epic, “The Runelords”. Is it still happening ? Also, are the Wachowski brothers stranded on a desert island or what? Haven’t heard anything regarding their next projects.
Cheers,
Christian.

Christian,
Looks like “The Runelords” has ran off with Martha Plimpton – into oblivion. Christian Duguay is supposed to be directing the first of three movies based on the novels by David Farland, one which was previewed at Comic Con in 2004. The official channels still say it’s on target for a 2007 release, but something tells me it might have stalled. And yes, The Wachowski brothers are indeed stranded on a desert island. Adam did me a favour on his way to the states and ‘dropped’ off a stinky package to a half-way isle. (Spot the ‘Matrix’ sequels loather).

Once again congrats on running a great site! What’s the 411 on the “Grudge” sequel, is it gonna happen and will it happen with Sarah Michelle Gellar? Also, “Twin Peaks season 2” on DVD, will I see it hit store shelves before or after the end of time?
John

John,
Butter me up, and I’ll slip your golden answers. That’s the way. “The Grudge 2” is indeed on the way – but without Sarah Michelle. Takashi Shimizu is directing it, and it’s due to hit theatres in ’06. As for “Twin Peaks: Season Two” on DVD, I’d hate to speculate, because it’s been pushed back more times than a drunk man at a club queue. But, I hear that Paramount in Australia has it tentatively listed for first quarter next year, so I imagine it should be on track for a release elsewhere in the world sometime next year too. Any word on if serenity is gonna become a trilogy? And if joss is returning to TV?
Nick

Nick,
Ask me the question again in a month or so when BestBuy put up their Top 10 selling DVD list. Then, I’ll be able to answer both questions in one.

This website is reporting that the Mel Gibson movie APOCALYTPO was all a hoax. Is that true? What is the latest on this project? I thought it was supposed to start filming in October!
Chris

Chris,
The only swindle revolving Mel Gibson at the moment is that he’s actually being held by the U.S Government – and Saddam Hussein has re-emerged with a new lease on life, and has apparently got into filmmaking. All jokes aside, yep, it is indeed a movie. A spokesperson for ICON tells me that it’s going great and that it will be out next year.

Clint, do you know if Anchor Bay will release a S.E. for Stallone’s “JUDGE DREDD”? Also, there are rumours of a “DEMOLITION MAN” Special Edition coming Summer 2006, is that true?
AB King

AB,
Sorry man, haven’t heard anything of those – wait till Sly’s stock rises a little, I guess. There is good news though… “The Contender” is about to garner a larger audience. It starts here in Australia – on Fox8 – in January.

Can you tell me if there’s any hope of Ice Cube doing another “Friday” movie?
Thanks,
Joker

The Clown Prince of Crime,
There’s been rumblings, but Cube’s got bigger fish to fry at the moment, so if it does happen, it’ll be a few years away yet.

Kevin Smith himself says he’s planning a sequel to “Dogma”. Over at his official site, Viewaskew.com, the big story on the main page is a recent chat Kev had on the messageboard about how he’s been tossing the idea around since 9/11.
Buddy-L

Ah,
What’s that? Sorry, was busy. What was that? Kev’s been tossing? Dogma’s responsible for 9/11? OK, I best focus. Let me click up Kev’s site….OK, I see…..load, damn you, load…Ah, so I see. Kevin Smith indeed does mention a possible “Dogma” sequel. Says Silent Bob, “So weird you should ask this, because ever since 9/11, I have been thinking about a sequel of sorts. I mean, the worst terrorist attack on American soil was religiously bent. In the wake of said attack, the leader of the “Free World” outed himself as pretty damned Christian. In the last election, rather than a quagmire war abroad, the big issue was whether or not gay marriage was moral. Back when I made “Dogma”, I always maintained that another movie about religion wouldn’t be forthcoming, as “Dogma” was the product of 28 years of religious and spiritual meditation, and I’d kinda shot my wad on the subject. Now? I think I might have more to say. And, yes – the Last Scion would be at the epicenter of it. And she’d have to be played by Alanis. And we’d need a bigger budget – because the entire third act would be the Apocalypse. Scary thing is this: the film would have to touch on Islam. And unlike the Cathloic League, when those cats don’t like what you do, they issue a death warrant on yer ass (see Rushdie). And now that I’ve got a family, I’m not as free to stir the shit-pot as I was when I was single, back when I made “Dogma”. I mean, now I’ve gotta think about more than my own safety and well-being. But regardless – yeah, a “Dogma” followup’s been swimming around in my head for some time now”. Um, so yeah, what was your question?

Hello,
Just wanting to know if any info about the Smurfs Movie has leaked I grew with the “Smurfs” as kid and will be going to see the CGI movie…wouldnt John Lithgow make a great gargamel?!
Stacy

Hmm,
Haven’t they already done it? I could’ve sworn I saw a preview of it on “Saturday Night Live” a few months back. Anna Nicole Smith was in it, right? (The real answer: Nope, no more news on this yet. But yes, it is CGI, and the best news? It’s the first of three new “Smurfs” movie. I like your Lithgow idea).

Yo What’s up?
I’m a pretty big fan of “Scooby-Doo” any word of a “Scooby Doo 3”? What’s up with the “Jetsons” Live-Action Film I first read about that one back in 1996!
John

Hi,
What’s Up? Not much – I usually run my “Veronica Mars” screensaver later in the day. But anyway, no word on a “Scooby Doo 3” (thank god!) but I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue the series direct-to-DVD. Why do you want another “Jetsons” movie? Wasn’t the one with Tiffany in it good enough?

Any word on “Jurassic Park 4”? I hear a “JAWS” remake is gonna show it’s fin sometime after JP4 is released. Is it true?
Rey

Rey,
Or should I say, ‘Dawson’? (the ‘Spielberg’ thing, and all). Yes, “Jurassic Park 4” is on the way, but it’s still in the early planning stages. At present, it’s a guy with a paddle pock with cotton balls stuck on the end playing the role of the killer T-Rex. As for a “Jaws” remake – I don’t doubt it, but I bloody well hope not.

Is there another “Star Trek” movie planned for the future?
CJ

CJ,
That’s my ol’ nickname, did you know that? Stopped asking people to call me by that though once Pammy Anderson’s character arrived on the scene in “Baywatch”. (People kept asking for a preview of my buoys). Yep, there will be another “Star Trek” movie – I like the idea that’s floating about that sees a race of Klingon’s capture and consequently butt-rape Berman – and recent reports suggest that it will be a prequel to the Kirk/Spock series, set at the Academy.

Hello,
Do you ever think of having sex with goat? I like, you must try.
Solam

Solam,
One way to get cheese I suppose.

Hi Clint,
You’ve got the best website on the planet right now. I have a question – Do you know when Eric Bana will return to do “Hulk 2”?
Gazz

Gazz,
I don’t know about – I did read a good movie website on Saturn, called ‘Aint it Loopy News’. (As In, ‘rings’, ‘saturn’…..ah, forgeddaboutit). But thanks. I can’t say Eric ‘will’ be back for “Hulk 2” – a whole lot of negotiations and kafuffle has been going on – but if they deliver on a good script – which is what, I hear, they must have if they want their original Bruce back – he might just go green again. Long ways off.

Clint,
Know what’s ahead in “Charmed”? Any good guest-stars or villains?
Walt

Walt,
They’re casting for the role of ‘The Slave King’ at the moment. He’s described as a thirty-something Albinos that’s held the people of Phoenix, Patra and Pilar enslaved for years, and rules imperiously and harshly. He’s furious when the three female demons return after having escaped eight years ago, and is stunned when they prepare to kill him. And I also hear that Nick Lachey was mighty popular – but a return appearance mightn’t be possible, what with Nick getting his own sitcom up and all.

Clint,
Anyone else aboard that Oliver Stone / Nicolas Cage “9/11” movie?
Claire

Hi Claire,
Newcomer Connor Paolo [“Mystic River”] has been cast as Nicolas Cage’s son in the film. Maggie Gyllenhaal, Frank Whaley, Maria Bello, Michael Pena and Tom Cruise’s cousin, William Mapother, are also in there.

Hey dudes,
why didn’t “Entourage” use Harry Knowles for that episode where they had a guy like him? I’m sure it was supposed to be him, right?
Colin

Colin,
You’re spot on. Let’s ask “Entourage” creator Doug Ellin why they didn’t use Harry though. “It required a lot of acting that role, and whilst we might have wanted Harry, we didn’t want to risk it because we didn’t know if he could act”, he says, adding that they ultimately cast an actor to play the Knowles-esque character.

Hulme not confident about Batman role?
