Mr. Applegate suits up for Prom Night

Hot on the heels of his bravura turn in um, “Road House 2”

Remember Jonathan Schaech? He was the sleazy guy with the strawberries who tried to de-pantie Winona Ryder in “How to American an American Quilt”; He was also the studly lead bandie in “That Thing You Do!” and more recently – you probably didn’t see this one – he played the son of the late Dalton (the Patrick Swayze character in the original) in the DTV sequel to “Roadhouse”. OK, you do?

Good. Makes this all the more easier now.

Well, Schaech – he WAS (until last year) married to Christina Applegate by the way – has just scored his first plum role in a big-screen film in quite some time. Screen Gems have snapped him up to play the pivotal role of ‘Richard Fenton’ (its the only character name highlighted in the synopsis we’ve just been sent so it must be a pivotal part) in their “Prom Night” remake.

Schaeach’s co-stars include tweeny faves Brittany Snow (“American Dreams”) and Dana Davis (“Raise Your Voice”). Neil H.Moritz – of “XXX” and “Fast and the Furious” fame – is producing, so even if it the remake doesn’t play that well, it’ll probably look damn good.

The film will again tell of a masked killer who stalks four teens responsible for the accidential death of a child six years earlier at their high school’s senior prom. Snow plays the role that Jamie Lee Curtis originated in the 1980 original.
