New Line are Housebound for remake

New Line is xeroxing popular Kiwi horror-comedy “Housebound” for US audiences.

Gerard Johnstone, who wrote and directed the film, will snare a producing position on the remake. New Line is scouring for a Yankee to write and direct the second go-round.

Says, THR :

The story tells of a rebellious young woman who is forced to return to her country home thanks to forced home detention program. Living with her small-town-minded mother and stepfather seems like a fate worse than death until she begins to suspect that something malevolent may be in house as well.

The original New Zealand film has been doused in praise, specifically from Johnston’s fellow kiwi Peter Jackson.
