The TV trailer for “Penny Dreadful”, the new John Logan-written/Sam Mendes-produced horror series that teams up some of cinema’s most famous horror characters, has been released. The show hits Showtime May 11.
Neve Campbell (“Party of Five”) will star in the new TNT drama “Guilty by Association”. The project, based on the book by former prosecutor Marcia Clark, “centers on Rachel Knight (Campbell), a gutsy Deputy District Attorney in the Special Trials Unit of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office who works closely with tough-as-nails female LAPD detective Bailey Keller (Elisabeth Rohm) and stylish female prosecutor Toni LaCollette (Rose Rollins), both of whom routinely crash at Rachel’s Elisabeth Rohmplace. Rachel is an unorthodox investigator and litigator who breezily thinks “evidence is for pussies” and uses her instincts and her formidable intelligence to get to the bottom of colleague Jake Pahlmeyer’s shocking death. Bailey is more by-the-book and is uneasy when Rachel starts digging into Jake’s death despite its being taken over by the FBI.” (Deadline)

Dylan Minnette (“Alexander And The Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day”) has been tapped to co-star opposite Jack Black in Sony and Rob Letterman’s film adaptation of the best-selling book series “Goosebumps”. (Deadline) Octavia Spencer, who was recently attached to a reboot of “Murder she Wrote” that is no longer going ahead (Angela Lansbury’s apparently doing cartwheels), is set to star on FOX’s “Red Band Society”. “Based on the acclaimed Spanish series Polseres Vermelles by Albert Espinosa, Red Band Society is a coming-of-age drama that explores with dark humor the daily lives of a group of teenagers living in a hospital who become unlikely friends. Spencer will play Nurse Jackson, who works in the pediatrics ward. She’s an excellent, intuitive nurse and a tough customer who doesn’t put up with any crap from anyone.” (Deadline) A new clip from Jason Bateman’s directorial debut “Bad Words”has been released.
Vic Armstrong (“Left Behind”) will direct “The Sunday Horse”. The movie is “inspired by the story of Debi Connor, a rider from the wrong side of the tracks who overcomes prejudice and a near-fatal accident to become the U.S. champion jumper on a horse that all the experts dismissed as untalented.” (Deadline)

Kurt Russell says filming will resume on “Fast & Furious 7” in April. “I think that’s going to take place in April, if I’m not mistaken. I don’t know what they’re going to do. I haven’t spoken to them. I saw Vin [Diesel] at the memorial for Paul [Walker]. He was just a wonderful guy. He was the kind of guy that what you saw was what you got. He was a really good guy. The thing that was rough there was that we had some good conversations, but I sensed from them that this was a guy who enjoyed many things in his life and was very appreciative, but was also getting to a point where he wanted to begin to seriously, in an artistic sense, explore what would excited him and find out where he might go. “Weeds” alum Mary-Louise Parker is in talks to star in a new single-camera comedy, NBC’s “Feed Me”. “Feed Me is described as a comedic exploration of adult intimacy and desire that centers on a dysfunctional family bound by love and the restaurant they run together. And when daughter Emma’s husband has an affair, they circle the wagons to fiercely protect one of their own.” (Deadline)
