A Haunting in Georgia

Editor Tom Wilkins (“Wanted”) will make his directorial debut on the sequel to 2009’s “A Haunting in Connecticut”. “Georgia”, now casting, centers on the true story of a young family imperiled by mysterious entities inhabiting their property in the rural South. Gold Circle’s (“White Noise 2 : The Light”) Paul Brooks will shepherd the production (Heat Vision Blog).

East Sixteen

Anthony LaPaglia will star in a new film for director Jason Barry, shooting at the end of month in Ireland. Gary Oldman, Guy Pearce, Ian Hart, Thomas Clarke and Chris O’Donnell will also star. Nicola Charles, the ex-“Neighbours” star who is engaged to director Barry, will produce the pic (Herald-Sun).

Scream 4

Despite meeting his maker in “Scream 2” (in the van, remember?) Randy (Jamie Kennedy) may be returning for the soon-to-shoot “Scream 4”. Maybe the dead film-fanatic will Tweet from the grave? (CHUD).

Blue Crush 2

Mike Elliott (“Beethoven’s Big Break”) has written, and will direct, a sequel to the Kate Bosworth-starring surfing drama. The new film, which will lens in South Africa (same place Uni are currently shooting ”Death Race 2”), will tell of a surfer girl, Dana, haunted by the memory of her deceased mother, who leaves Malibu behind and heads to South Africa to fulfill her mother’s dream of surfing Jeffery’s Bay (What’s Playing).

Iron Man 2

Rumours are rife that Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Captain America (Chris Evans) may appear in an after-credits sequence in “Iron Man 2”. It’s almost certain they’ll be an after-credits sequence (considering there was one in the first film) but that may indeed feature Thor, but considering Chris Evans has only just been signed to play Captain America, it’s unlikely he’ll be making an appearance in the late April release (Bad Taste). Meanwhile, the rumour mill is suggesting Olivia Mann’s (the “Attack of the Show” co-host who we know is playing a small role – but assumed it’d be a ‘nothing’ role) actually playing ‘Wasp’ in the Jon Favreau-directed sequel (The Complex).

Butter

Jennifer Garner will be strictly surrounded by the “beautiful people” when her new satirical comedy kicks off. Joining the former leather-clad superhero (Elektra!) are fellow superhero-types, Hugh ‘Wolverine’ Jackman and Alicia ‘Batgirl’ Silverstone (Variety).

X-Men : The First Class

Though he hasn’t heard anything, “X-Men” star James Marsden said he’d be quite happy to reprise his role as ‘Cyclops’ in the forthcoming “X-Men” ‘prequel’ (yeah, unlikely they’d want him).
“I would not think twice about being part of any incarnation of the “X-Men” films. Another one I know nothing about but we got to be very close on those movies. It was a family and a formula that really worked. That would really excite me and please me to go back to that. You just have to cross your fingers and hope that it comes together. You want nothing more as an actor to be doing work that people love and the couple of “X-Men” movies that I was lucky to be a part of were examples of films that worked on so many different levels. It’s so rare to be a part of something like that.” (Coming Soon).

Foster

Ioan Gruffudd (“Fantastic Four”, “W”) and Richard E. Grant (“Dracula”, “Jack & Sarah”) will star in writer/director Jonathan Newman’s new flick. Flick’s about a young couple, grieving over the loss of their young son, who are surprised by the sudden arrival of a youngster named Eli on their doorstep (The Hollywood Reporter).

Cover Girl

Blake Lively (“Gossip Girl”), Jim Sturgess (“Across the Universe”) and Hugh Dancy (“Enchanted”) will star in director Donald Petrie’s “Cover Girl”. Based on a script by comedian Gren Wells (Production Weekly).

Pirates of the Caribbean : On Stranger Tides

A couple of months back we ran a casting breakdown for the next “Pirates” flick which, though not stated, suggested producers were casting for the roles of several ‘mermaids’. Seems one of the fishy parts has gone to Astrid Berges-Frisbey. The French actress joins Johnny Depp, Ian McShane, Penelope Cruz, Stephen Graham, Sam Claflin, and Max Irons in the Rob Marshall-directed picture (‘Disney’).

The Help

Viola Davis (“Doubt”) will star in the feature film adaptation of Kathryn Stockett’s best-selling novel. Story, set in Jackson, Miss., in the early 1960s, explores how the unspoken code of behavior governing Southern households is shattered when an aspiring writer interviews a maid, who speaks candidly about her experiences. The interview sets off shock waves that reverberate across the entire community. (Variety).

The Man from U.N.C.L.E

David Dobkin (“Wedding Crashers”, the upcoming “Vacation” remake) will direct, and Max Borenstein will write, the long-gestating feature film version of the classic TV Show (The Hollywood Reporter).

Snabba Cash

Zac Efron will star in a remake of the the Swedish thriller. The WB/Atlas Entertainment production tells of “three interlocking stories about set in Stockholm about friends who become involved with drugs and organized crime.” (Variety).

Robotech

Sylvain White (“The Losers”) explains what attracted him to a feature film version of the ’80s cartoon series. ”It’s funny because, in the ’80s, when everybody loved Transformers, I didn’t really like Transformers. I loved Robotech. What was cool about Robotech is that it was a cartoon, but it felt like a movie. It had really adult themes in it and it was a real epic saga. It wasn’t about just the one episode. It had really great themes and arcs. The Japanese, who were behind the cartoon, were really smart and created something that’s really a cult classic. I heard there was a script that was being developed, so I read it and it’s very good, but I don’t really know what’s going on with the project.” (IESB.net).

Steven Seagal : Lawman

Steven Seagal’s reality series has been shut down following a sex traffiking lawsuit filed against the full-time actor/part-time cop (Variety).

Taxi Driver 2

Though previous rumours suggesting Martin Scorsese and Robert De Niro were working on a sequel to the ’70s classic were debunked, De Niro now says a follow-up is still possible. “You never know – something could come up,” said De Niro. “I thought it would be interesting to find a way to bring [Travis Bickle] back all these years later – maybe with something ironic about where he’d end up, as he did in the first one.” (MTV)
