No Billy in Beverly Hills Cop 4?

Producer on what to expect with Axel Foley’s return

A fourth “Beverly Hills Cop” movie has been talked about for years – but like Apollo at the end of the Drago match, there was just no getting it off the ground.
I tell ya, there’s not one writer in Hollywood (or beyond) who won’t tell you he’s been brought in to write a script, treatment or scriptment for that at some stage. It’s just insane. They tried everything.

But that was with Producer Jerry Bruckheimer behind the wheel – he abandoned the project a couple of years back now – and now Lorenzo di Bonaventura (“The Transformers”) has been assigned the task of driving Axel Foley back to the screen. And for all intents and purposes, it sounds like he might actually succeed where Bruckheimer failed. From what I hear they’ve also got themselves a pretty good storyline pencilled out.

The uber-producer told Latino Review that he’s hoping to get it off the ground very shortly – in fact, it’ll be one of Eddie Murphy’s next films.

“Eddie would like to make it his third movie from now”, he tells the site, adding that it was Murphy who initiated the idea of doing a third sequel to his 1984 hit.

Unfortunately, di Bonaventura isn’t keen to bring back Axel Foley’s Beverly Hills cohorts, Judge Reinhold and John Ashton. “[That’s] not for me. If it was just my vote I think I would take Axel and just move him”.

The producer also says you can expect a ‘different’ type of Foley this time around – because he’s no longer the “a guy who is really cocky at age 25”. The character would now be in his forties. “You have to figure out how Axel would evolve over 20 years, so it’s an interesting challenge”.

Sorry, back up… did you say no Judge Reinhold? Isn’t this a “Beverly Hills Cop” movie?

Smell the Bacon? Yep, its Wild Hogs 2!
