Nothing like Friday Night TV

The film mightn’t have put many cheeks on seats, but obviously enough to warrant a "Friday Night Lights" TV spin-off.

The Peter Berg directed, Billy Bob Thornton starring film will get the TV series treatment via NBC, says Variety, with the show eyeing a Fall 2006 start.

The film will be set in the present day – not the 1980’s as the film was – and fix on how small towns, like the one featured in the film, have changed over the last couple of decades. Though Thornton isn’t expected to reprise his role for the series, a coach character like his, will be written into the show.

Peter Berg is planning to write and direct the pilot, in addition to producing duties.
