Hot off the heels of the success of “The Help”, Minny Jackson Octavia Spencer is on a roll. Already set to star in an awesome cast for the upcoming indie dramedy, “Smashed”, Variety is reporting that Spencer is now in negotiations to star in the directorial pic for Diablo Cody’s untitled film.
Julianne Hough and Russell Brand have already been cast in the lead roles. In the film, a sheltered young woman (Hough) loses her faith after a plane crash and goes to Las Vegas, where she meets an unlikely companion (Brand).
Spencer would play card dealer at a casino on the strip where Brand’s character works.
Mason Novick “(500) Days of Summer”) will produce. Production will begin in the spring.
Spencer has a couple of other projects set to be released including a made for TV movie by Dan Goor, “Girls! Girls! Girls!”, “The Trials and Tribulations of a Trailer Trash Housewife” and “Lost on Purpose”.
