One remake you won’t be seeing on the big screen….

1989’s “Steel Magnolias”, the film that earned Julia Roberts an Oscar Nomination back when she was a wee newcomer, is getting the remake treatment.

Rather unexpectedly, the new version won’t be a big screen venture but a telemovie to air on the Lifetime channel. In addition, it’ll feature an all-black cast.

Deadline says the remake will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron and Sony Pictures TV, with Kenny Leon (“A Raising in the Sun”) directing.

Like the original, the new “Magnolias” will be set in Louisiana and explore the bond among a group of women in the present day.

Bruce Almighty and Evan Almighty reunite! At long last!

Please let it be so! Gene Hackman may return to movies!
