Orci responds to Star Trek exit rumor

News hit on the weekend that Roberto Orci had vacated his position as director on Paramount’s third “Star Trek” (mach 2) movie. It was suggested that the “Into Darkness” scribe had been booted because of a subpar script – one that involved time-travel, and would potentially feature an appearance by William Shatner’s Captain Kirk – but speaking to TrekMovie, Orci hints that his exit might have something to do with.. receiving a bigger and better offer.

Orci says he’ll still be involved, while debunking those script rumours.

“I will be very involved:) Still excited to make Trek 3! And on time. We’ll find the right director! No time travel was ever considered, fyi.”

One reader reminded Orci of the infamous Captain Kirk spiel “Don’t let them do ANYTHING to take you out of that chairs. Because while you’re there, you can make a difference”. To which Orci (curiously) responded :

“Have not forgotten. On the contrary, factored into decision. Their are bigger chairs to consider.”

So, judging by those comments, sounds like Orci himself made the decision not to direct the movie. Maybe he was quacking in his Crosby’s about taking on such a big venture? Or maybe he got an offer to do a film he felt more comfortable helming? Whatever the case, he has confirmed he’s no longer directing. I’m hearing everything from Joe Cornish to Edgar Wright possibly taking over to Paramount managing to coax J.J Abrams back to direct – now that he’s wrapped “Star Wars : Episode VII”. Guess we’ll find out in a near Stardate.
