Paltrow, Cruise in talks for Rock of Ages

Rewatched “Duets” the other night. I really like that film. My wife and I – back when she was my ‘girlfriend’ – really dug that when it was first released. For about two or three months there, it was ‘our movie’ – and of course, ‘Cruisin’, covered by Gwyneth Paltrow and Huey Lewis, was our movie. You know what mostly surprised me about the film? (and granted, I haven’t seen the “Glee” episode she features in yet) Paltrow’s singing ability. She has a killer voice. Anyone that’s heard her cover of Kim Carnes’ “Betty Davis Eyes” will back me up here. She really does sing like a Disney princess. She’s also letting her lungs do the talking in the new film “Country Song”. Again, nothing but raves.

For that reason, I’m not surprised that Adam Shankman (“Hairspray”) has offered Paltrow a role in his new musical “Rock of Ages” (based on the popular musical about a couple who tell their story to the beat of ’80s big-hair songs). She would be great, I’d imagine.

Paltrow tells EW “It sounds cool… I just got the script and I will read it on the plane home tomorrow. But it sounds like it could be fun.”

Tom Cruise was also recently rumoured to have been offered a small part in the film. That’s now confirmed too – well, the part about him being offered a role.

Looking forward to seeing the film but first, the musical.
