Phil Noyce selects fellow Aussie Thwaites for The Giver

Phillip Noyce will enjoy the company of a fellow Aussie on the set of his next flick.

The “Salt” helmer has cast Oz up-and-comer Brenton Thwaites (“Blue Lagoon : The Awakening”) in his adaptation of the dystopian young peoples novel “The Giver”.

Jeff Bridges stars in – and produces – the film.

Deadline, who broke the news of Thwaite’s anointment, said :

Aged up from the book, the Jonas character is selected to become the next Receiver of Memory in the heavily ordered and seemingly perfect society. He bonds with the previous Receiver (Bridges) and discovers the lies that dominate their society and a more independent way of living.

The film, adapted by Vadim Perelman with a rewrite by Michael Mitnick, is due to lens in South Africa in the Fall.

Thwaites, who has a princely role in the upcoming “Maleficent” opposite Noyce’s “Salt” star Angelina Jolie, was previously attached to one of the filmmaker’s abandoned projects, “Timeless”.
