Ratchet and Clank scribe boards Sony’s Popeye movie

Sony Pictures Animation has hired T.J. (Todd) Fixman (“Ratchet and Clank”) to do some work on the script for their “Popeye” film.

At this stage we don’t have any word on when the film will go into production. Last March, director Genndy Tartakovsky exited to project and as yet no replacement has been hired.

“Popeye” will be based on E.C. Segar’s sailor character, who first appear in the “Thimble Theater” comic strip in 1929. Eventually Popeye became the star of the strip which led to his own cartoon TV show in the ’30s and ’40s. In 1980, Robert Altman directed a “Popeye” film starring Robin Williams.
