While it’s been unclear up until this point, a Tweet from the official “Power Rangers” Twitter account has confirmed that Lionsgate’s upcoming “Power Rangers” film will adopt the same character names as in the original show:
⚡️ ⚡️ IT’S MORPHIN TIME, Jason, Kimberly, Zack, Billy & Trini! #PowerRangersMovie, coming 2017!
— Power Rangers (@PowerRangers) October 30, 2015
This means Dacre Montgomery will play the Red Ranger, Jason; Naomi Scott will play the Pink Ranger, Kimberly; Ludi Lin will play the Black Ranger, Zack; RJ Cyler will play the Blue Ranger, Billy; and Becky G will play the Yellow Ranger, Trini.
Dean Israelite is directing the “Power Rangers” from a script by Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. Producers are Haim Saban, Brian Casentini and Allison Shearmur.
The project will reimagine the origins of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, a group of high school kids given extraterrestrial powers who unite to save the world.
“Power Rangers” will open on January 13, 2017.
