Producer on Jack Ryan reboot

Moviehole caught up with the always-busy Lorenzo di Bonaventura – producer of such films as “Transformers” and “G.I Joe” – this week, and asked what the hold-up is on the long-gestating Tom Clancy-less Jack Ryan reboot. There’s not much to tell, it seems, other than it is something the di Bonaventura and his producing partners are still keen on doing.

According to di Bonaventura, Paramount is simply having a hard time coming up with something that’s going to be as good as, if not better, than the previous Ryan films – be it ”The Hunt for Red October” or ”Patriot Games” – so they’re taking their time on the project.

“I’m working on trying to bring back Jack Ryan as a character to the screen, and that’s a great challenge, because there were a lot of good movies already made”, he says.

di Bonaventura also confirmed rumours that Phil Noyce was (is?) involved in some capacity.

‘’No, we were just – we’ve been working – I mean, yes. We did talk about it, actually, prior to Salt. And we’ve been so focused on Salt that neither of us has really had time to think about talking about Jack Ryan. So, he’s going away on vacation now, for a week – or — vacation’s the wrong way. You know, he worked like crazy. He needed to take a week and breathe, so that’s what he’s doing right now.”

As for those rumours that they’re going to go even younger with Ryan this time ‘round (Ryan Gosling has been mentioned, James Franco too), di Bonaventura says. “I think we will go with a younger actor, for sure”.

It was reported last year that Hossein Amini was working on the script. Amini’s agent confirmed he’s still onboard for us, but couldn’t say anything more than that.

Producing alongside di Bonaventura are Mace Neufeld and Joshua Donen.
