Quick News – September 16, 2010

Jawry Beauty Jennifer Garner will star opposite Oscar Nominee Jeremy Renner in the dramatic thriller “Chemistry“. Flick fixes on “a small-town pharmacist (Renner) who is stuck in a loveless marriage and rediscovers himself through an affair with a trophy wife (Garner) who introduces him to the pleasures of prescription drugs. Things spin out of control when the affair escalates and the lovers begin plotting to kill the woman’s husband.” (More…)

A TV series based on the best-selling novel “Prince of Tides” is in the works. The series, which will screen on ABC, will apparently stay closer to Pat Conroy’s 1986 novel than to the 1991 Columbia Pictures movie starring Barbra Streisand and Nick Nolte that it spawned. Guess that means Nick needs not shave anytime soon? (More…)

Apparently the fourth “Naked Gun” film has been put on ice. What’s Playing says, “the studio was hoping to do it this year but for numerous reasons, largely financial (they didn’t want to spend the money on a Naked Gun movie), they ultimately decided to scrub it from the schedule. She (our Paramount pal) said the budget of the film had been cut back drastically, so much so that it would’ve resulted in the film being no more than a very cheap direct-to-DVD release. The script was going to be gutted. She says “Finances on it were so stripped back but that [Paramount were even questioning] whether they could afford [Nielsen].” Nobody wanted to be involved in that.” We have to be thankful for, at least, “Transformers 3”. Wait a minute… (More…)

IMAX Corporation announced today that Universal Pictures’ ”Fast Five” will be released to digital IMAX theatres simultaneously with the action-thriller’s wide release on June 10, 2011. Yep, one suspected the film might give you a headache… now it’s guaranteed to! Vin Diesel and Paul Walker lead a reunion of all-stars from every chapter of the “Fast and Furious” franchise, along with some new cast including Dwayne Johnson, in the film directed by Justin Lin. “‘Fast Five’ is a perfect film for IMAX,” said Universal Pictures Chairman Adam Fogelson. “The film’s incredible action sequences combined with IMAX’s unmatched quality that allows the action to jump off the screen will provide filmgoers with an optimal theatrical experience.”

“I think it’s going to be a little more reality-based”, Jeremy Renner tells MTV of his ‘Hawkeye’ costume (in “The Avengers“). “You can kind of tell with Scarlett [Johansson]’s character [in ‘Iron Man 2′], it’s going to be more of a uniform… and not a big purple, comics sort of thing. That’s why I think it’s more palatable to audiences — there’s almost a sense of reality to these superheroes. That’s what makes it interesting to me, anyway.” Dude, you forgot the part about “the money is fuckin’ good, too!”

A spoof of “Paranormal Activity” is in the works. Thankfully, the hacks behind “Epic Movie”, “Date Movie”, “Meet the Spartans” and “Vampires Suck” aren’t involved (More…). Oh, and there might be actual boobies in it! Meantime, a Japanese “Paranormal Activity” spin-off has been announced. The Japanese must be pissed they didn’t come up with this horror effort though, right!?

Kevin James in a remake of “Beverly Hills Ninja”!? Written by the chap behind “Wall Street Money Never Sleeps”? Yeah, kinda… (More…)

“Charlie Sheen’s said to be playing with the idea of being a bigscreen gunslinger again. Been a few calendars since Young Guns. Told he’s circling a western called ”Guns of the Dead’‘, set to film in Utah shortly. They’ve been chasing a few names for this dusty actioner – Eric Roberts and Val Kilmer were also rumored for a while – but Sheen’s apparently their man”. Sheen’s face surely is looking gravelly enough these days – always good for an old gunslinger yarn! (More…)

“Tron Legacy” star Olivia Wilde is joining Ryan Reynolds and Jason Bateman in director David Dobkin’s “The Change-Up“. “Bateman plays a married man who switches bodies with slacker best friend (Reynolds). Wilde will play the married guy’s law firm co-worker, who’s an impetus for the body switch. The comedy, written by The Hangover scribes Jon Lucas and Scott Moore, films this fall.” Wilde is the one with the eyes from “The OC”. (More…)

The Brazilian Poster for “Life As We Know It“, starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel, is a tad different to the U.S one-sheeter. The film will apparently be the same.

J.J Abrams’ new drama series “Alcatraz” has been picked up by FOX. Some of the “Lost” cast may be involved – I’m guessing those who are still unemployed since leaving purgatory? (More…)

M.Night Shyamalan and Media Rights Capital will produce and Daniel Stamm (“The Last Chronicle”) will direct “Reincarnate,” the second “Night Chronicles” film. Shyamalan says of the film’s director, “Daniel has a preternatural control of tone. He is an actor’s director. He’s a storyteller who understands character as much as fear.” But is the script a match for his abilities?

Steven Soderbergh’s Fight-Flick “Haywire” is now at Overture. The flick, starring Ewan McGregor and Michael Douglas, was previously with Lionsgate (More…)

Malin Akerman (“Watchmen”) is in talks to join Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston in “Wanderlust“, a comedy about a couple who take refuge at a hippie commune. David Wain (“Wet Hot American Summer”) directs. America – being that Aniston is in it – stays away anyway. (More…)

There are set photos from the upcoming “Three Musketeers” movie here. And yeah, I’m still about as interested in seeing it as I am cleaning the cat’s litter tray.

Kevin Pollak says he’s been offered a role in Kevin Smith’s next film “Red State“. Pollak previously worked with Smith on “Cop Out”. That could explain why he hasn’t yet agreed to it.

David Fincher is negotiating with MRC to produce movies under his own moniker. Cool. (More…)

Danny Trejo tells Movie Mikes that Eric Roberts is in talks to join him and Michelle Rodriguez in the flick “Skinny Dip“. Unlike “Machete”, the film won’t feature a threesome – at least not one involving Trejo, Rodriguez and Roberts. I could be wrong.

Australian actress Rachael Taylor (“Transformers”, “Red Dog”) will appear in at least 3 episodes of “Grey’s Anatomy” next season. She plays a doctor on the hit drama. I’m christening her ‘Mc Aussie’. (More…)

“Clint, where’s the Podcast?”, the email reads. The Clint replies : It’s right here man.
