It’s been confirmed that “The Avengers” will be partly filmed in Cleveland, Ohio [Cleveland.com]

“Footloose” (2.0) star Julianne Hough has snagged a role in the all-star sing-a-long-musical “Rock of Ages“. The Adam Shankman directed film stars Tom Cruise and Mary J.Blige, among others. Cruise plays an arrogant and charming rock rock at the top of his career who catches the eye of Hough’s character, a small-town girl who rejects him and ends up as a stripper before finding true love at the end. Animator Mike Salva is helping Kickstarter can, er, kickstart his new animated comedy “Pound Dogs” – about two dogs talking about eating cat poo and waiting for adoption at an animal shelter. Sony Pictures Releasing has announced that both “The Roommate” starring Leighton Meester and Minka Kelly and “Country Strong” starring Gweyneth Paltrow and Garrett Hedlund are going direct-to-DVD in Australia.

It was announced yesterday that Alcon/Warner Bros are planning to either prequelize or sequelize Ridley Scott’s 1982 classic “Blade Runner“. And who would the rights holders to the Philip K.Dick source material like to direct such a project? Christopher Nolan [i09]

Zack Snyder says it was a no-brainer accepting the offer to direct “Superman“. “Superman’s the king daddy; he’s the shit. If you can make him work, in the end there’s nobody else in the superhero world. For me, Watchmen was the exact opposite of Superman in that now that I’ve deconstructed the superhero world — I tore the curtain down — maybe I’m the right guy to put it back up.” [ComicBookMovie]

Newcomer Jeff Hephner has been cast in “Playboy“, NBC’s drama pilot set at a ’60s Playboy club. Hephner will play ‘the ultimate plaboy’ on the show, starring alongside Amber Heard, David Krumholtz, Laura Benanti and Jenna Dewan-Tatum, among others [Deadline]

“Jackass” trio Johnny Knoxville, Bam Margera and Ryan Dunn are attached to star along with singer Willie Nelson in the new comedy “Mustache Riders“. Knoxville is also attached to “First Man in which he “will play a man whose wife is elected president. A natural hellraiser, he has totally behaved himself during his wife’s presidential campaign, only to find the dynamic of their relationship changes after he moves into the White House and becomes First Man. Aidan Quinn (“Stakeout”, “Blink”) has joined the cast of the “Prime Suspect” reboot. Quinn will play Jane’s (Maria Bello) boss on the series.[Variety]

James Callis (“Battlestar Galactica”) will reunite with former castmate Jamie Bamber and “Galactica” creator Ron Moore on the latter’s new series “17th Precinct“. Callis will play a homicide detective on the NBC series. Matt Long (“Ghost Rider”) has also joined the cast of the supernatural cop series.[TV Line]

Pathe and Emmett Furla have replaced Focus as financiers on the Stephen Frears gambling flick “Lay the Favorite“. Catherine Zeta-Jones, Bruce Willis and Rebecca Hall star. [Deadline]

“Big Love” star Ginnifer Goodwin has been tapped for a lead role in ABC’s drama pilot ”Once Upon a Time”. The show, set in a small town where fairy tales might be real, will star Goodwin as the ‘Snow White’ character. [Deadline]

David Fincher will direct his “Se7en” star Kevin Spacey in a U.S TV remake of British hit “House of Cards“. The project, which Spacey will also produce, is set at the end of Margaret Thatcher’s tenure as prime minister and follows a British politician with his eye on the top job. [Reuters]

Olivia Thirlby (the upcoming “Judge Dredd”) and Julianne Moore have joined the cast of “Another Bullshit Night in Suck City” starring Robert De Niro and Paul Dano. [First Showing]

“Rainman” and “Tin Men” director Barry Levinson will direct ”O.K.C.”, an indie drama about ”the real circumstances behind the devastating bombing in Oklahoma City” [Deadline]

Chris Pratt (“Everwood”) and Rhys Ifans (“The Amazing Spider-Man”) have joined the cast of the Judd Apatow-produced/Jason Segel-Emily Blunt starring comedy “Five-Year Engagement“. [THR]

Fox are sequelizing “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief”. Logan Lerman is expected to reprise the title role in “Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters”, which could get underway as early as this Summer. [24 Frames]
