Two very sad losses over the past 48 hours.
Firstly, prolific producer Jerry Weintraub, whose many credits include the “Karate Kid” and “Ocean’s Eleven” series, died Monday of heart failure in Santa Barbara. He was 77. Part of the entertainment biz for more than 50 years, Weintraub worked in the music and management arena before switching gears to film producing in the ’70s with Robert Altman’s “Nashville”. Films to follow included “Oh, God!”, “Cruising”, “The Karate Kid Part II”, “Soldier”, “Vegas Vacation” and “Nancy Drew”. He most recently served as a produce on HBO’s upcoming “Westworld”.
Actress Amanda Peterson, best known for playing Cindy Mancini in 1987 comedy “Can’t Buy Me Love”, has died at the age of 43. Though an official cause of death has yet to be released, it’s believed she suffered some sleep apnea and other medical problems. Throughout the ’80s and ’90s, Peterson appeared in such movies as “Annie”, “Explorers”, “The Lawless Land”, “Listen to Me” and “Windrunner”. She also played Sunny on the TV mini-series and subsequent series spin-off “A Year in the Life”.She is survived by second husband David Hartley and two children.
