R.I.P. Len Lesser

Regrettably, Len Lasser passed away today in Burbank, Calif., after losing a battle with cancer, at the age of 88.

“Heaven got a great comedian and actor today,” Michele, his daughter, said in a statement today.

Lesser turned in scene stealing performances, in  “Papillon”, opposite Dustin Hoffman, and “Kelly’s Heroes” with Clint Eastwood. And delivered the two most memorable characters in the twilight of his career, as Seinfeld’s Uncle Leo and Garvin from Everybody Loves Raymond.

A character actor through and through, Lesser cornered the market on cantankerous, frustrated,  loud men but always managed to make them funny.
