Rachel Weisz bringing her Hocus Pocus to Oz : The Great and Powerful

Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz, one of the most gifted not to mention versatile actors around, is set to make friends with a witches hat and broomstick. The “Constant Gardner” actress has accepted the role of Evanora, the witch Theodora’s sister, in Sam Raimi’s “Oz : The Great and Powerful”.

The film stars James Franco as ‘Oz’ and tells the backstory of how the eccentric young man became the wise-old ‘Wizard of Oz’. Mila Kunis is playing the abovementioned Theodora.

The Hollywood Reporter offers up the following synopsis :

James Franco portrays a fast-talking snake oil salesman and illusionist who flees a traveling circus and winds up whisked away in a hot air balloon by a tornado to Oz where he must face off against real magic and the sisters battling for control of the land. Theodora starts out as a good witch, alongside her beautiful sister Glinda, but after her sexual advances are jilted by Franco’s salesman, she’s convinced by Evanora to switch sides and help her older sister rule Oz.

My question, and this might kick off some comment below, wasn’t ‘The Wizard of Oz’ – and everyone else – just a figment of Dorothy’s imagination? Wasn’t she merely dreaming about these people? And if so, how can any of them realistically have a backstory? Let’s discuss!
