Raimi determined to remake Evil Dead

There’s good news and there’s bad news.

First, the good news : Sam Raimi is still making movies.

The bad news? Raimi is still keen on having someone remake his college thesis cum cult classic “Evil Dead”.

Raimi’s long-time collaborator and producer Robert Tapert said the remake idea is still very much at the forefront of the “Spider-Man” helmer’s mind.

”[An Evil Dead reboot is] possible; we’re looking at a script this month… What’s interesting about ‘Evil Dead’ is very few people saw it in the format we made it for, which is for the theater”, Tapert told Freep (via STYD). … I think Sam wants to embrace the ultimate experience in grueling terror and see it remade for a proper theatrical experience.”

There was talk – and that’s all it’s ever been – at one stage that Raimi would throw two “Evil Dead” projects to the public : One, a fourth “Evil Dead” with Bruce Campbell back in the lead role of Ash, and the other, the long-gestating remake (without Campbell). I think it’s safe to say we will only get one of those, and it won’t be the one we all want.
