Ralph Fiennes playing Blofeld in new Bond flick Skyfall?

Ralph Fiennes is doing the new James Bond flick “Skyfall”. That we know. What we don’t know – and it’s no big, we don’t know who a lot of the other cast members, like the recently announced Helen McCrory or Ola Rapace, are playing yet – is who the “Red Dragon” and “Harry Potter” star will be playing.

Online scuttlebutt suggests Fiennes is playing one of the most iconic characters from the world of Bond- no, not Jaws, but Blofeld.

Blofeld, of course, is the legendary hairless rogue played by Donald Pleasence (and others; initially though, they’d not show an actor’s face at all just a man stroking a cat) in several Bond films. The head of the criminal organization SPECTRE, Blofeld’s unarguably Bond’s greatest nemesis and comes complete with litter-messin’ feline.

Fiennes might make a good Blofeld.

The Playlist asked the actor if there’s any truth to the rumours that’s who he’s playing in “Skyfall” :

(Note : Seems the actor has been removed, likely at the request of the studio or the actor’s reps. Did Mr Fiennes give too much away, maybe?)

Now clean-shaven once again, Fiennes refused to say whether his work later this month on the upcoming Bond film “Skyfall” will require any further distract ‘do measures, but when the Playlist asked about rumors whether he’d play famous Bond villain Ernst Stavros Blofeld in the film, Fiennes played coy. “I can’t say anything more,” he said with a grin, having already discussed with The Playlist about how screenwriter John Logan (who wrote “Coriolanus”) was partly responsible for Fiennes appearing in the new ‘Bond’ film because “because he wrote this really interesting part which is really quite fun.”

When we asked him directly if he would be playing Blofeld he laughed once more. “I can’t say anything,” he said, but then did allow this: “I will not be stroking a white pussy!” Is that a straight-up denial or perhaps a coy response to how his character would be different from the antagonist who appeared in the Bond films, “Thunderball,” “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service,” and “You Only Live Twice”? We’ll leave that up to you to decide.

Fiennes also spoke to the IFC who played coy when asked about his character and whether or not he’ll be getting bruised and battered :

Will he get to join in on the stunts and action sequences? Fiennes took a long pause. “I can’t answer that question,” he said. “I don’t get laid, that’s for sure.” That might be a clue, or it might not be — typically Bond’s the guy who gets laid in James Bond films; that’s why they’re called James Bond films.

Ernst Stavro Blofeld appeared in “From Russia With Love”, “Thunderball”, “You Only Live Twice”, “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service”, “Charles Gray” and “For Your Eyes Only”. The character also appeared in the unofficial Bond film (itself a remake of “Thunderball”) “Never Say Never Again”.

He only played the character once (Telly Savalas played the character a couple of times, as did Anthony Dawson) but for my money Pleasence did the best Blofeld. And I think Mike Myers agrees.
