Ribisi joins Cameron’s Avatar

$190 million dollar movie, set for release May 22, 2009.

Another ‘name’ – and I stress ‘name’ because aside from Sigourney Weaver most of the film’s cast are essentially unknowns – has joined the cast of Jim Cameron’s hugely anticipated “Avatar”, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Giovanni Ribisi has inked a deal to play a passive-aggressive character named Selfridge in the Fox film about a band of humans pitted against a distant planet’s indigenous inhabitants.

The “Perfect Stranger” star joins Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, and Michelle Rodriguez for the $190 million dollar movie, set for release May 22, 2009.

The science-fiction epic features a blend of live-action photography and new virtual photorealistic production techniques invented by Cameron’s team. The film features six computer-generated actors known as “synthespians” and is in production in Los Angeles and next month starts production in New Zealand at Weta Digital.
