Rumours : Pirates 5 directors, Carrie, Django & Terminator casting

Carrie
Hailee Steinfeld, best actress nominee for “True Grit”, is rumoured to be the frontrunner to star as the title character in a remake of the Stephen King-penned horror flick. “Word of her potential involvement comes from one of our most proven sources. We hear that Carrie’s producers are eyeing Hailee Steinfeld as a top candidate for the part of the tormented high school girl played by Sissy Spacek in the original. That doesn’t mean, of course, that Hailee has it… or even wants it. The script is still being written and they won’t make any decisions until it’s done…” [Cinema Blend]

Terminator 5
Though Arnold Schwarzenegger is said to be taking a break from acting, Megan Ellison (the producer of the film and new rights-holder of the series) is keen to get the new ”Terminator” movie underway as soon as possible. It’s been suggested that Schwarzenegger, who is essentially in hiding due to recent events, mightn’t be as big a part of the film as originally intended (cameo at best) and the film would instead be feature a young actor like Paul Walker, possibly reprising one of the franchises’ most popular characters. “…but this Terminator would mostly be anchored by a new, younger male lead (Paul Walker’s name keeps coming up – could he possibly be Lin’s pick for Kyle Reese?). Oh, and I think that’s where the rumors of the ‘original cast returning’ come into play – though it’s not so much the original cast as it is ‘the original characters’ from the original movie. Geddit? Like J.J’s Star Trek. ” [What’s Playing]

Pirates of the Caribbean 5
Though it’ll likely be a couple of years before we see it (Johnny Depp wants to take a break from piracy for a while), Disney are said to be already considering their options if Rob Marshall decides not to direct a follow-up to his “On Stranger Tides”. “Disney wants Marshall to direct Pirates 5, in fact they’ve had an offer out to him since January, but since there’s been no movement we’ve heard from our sources that the studio is starting to at least consider other alternatives. Our most reliable sources tell us that their dream choice for the Pirates of the Caribbean 5 directing job is Tim Burton. There was reason to believe they wanted him for the fourth movie too, and just couldn’t get him. Odds that they’ll get him now are pretty slim. We’ve heard they’re also tossing around names like Shawn Levy, Sam Raimi, Chris Weitz, and Alfonso Cuaron….” [Cinema Blend]

Django Unchained
Quentin Tarantino wanted Leonardo Di Caprio for “Inglorious Basterds” but the casting, sadly, didn’t come off for the former videostore clerk cum filmmaker. Will it this time? Word is Tarantino wants Di Caprio to play the villain of his new Spaghetti Western. In addition, “Thor” star Idris Elba is rumoured to have met with the director about playing the lead role (a role previously reported to be Will Smith’s) in the movie. [Very Aware]
