Russell Crowe Vs. Robin Hood

Playing The Sheriff of Nottingham in a new movie

Having decided to retrace the steps of an early 90s Kevin Costner – “A Good Year” was his, “The War”, if you will – Russell Crowe has now agreed to front a new contemporary version of the classic ‘Robin Hood’ story.

The Rugby-loving New Zealander will play The Sheriff of Nottingham – a man who Robin Hood robs from, who then gives his riches to the poor, resulting in Nottingham’s servant having a phone thrown at his head. Or something.

“Nottingham” is based on the premise that Robin Hood was less virtuous and the sheriff more noble than previously depicted. Story also involves a love triangle between Robin Hood, Maid Marion and Nottingham’s sheriff.

“He’s trying to do the right thing, but he’s up against Robin Hood, who’s becoming heroic while not necessarily acting in the nicest way,” explained Reiff, a history buff.

Screenwriters Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris (“Sleeper Cell”) have pocketed seven figures for their script, but Crowe will receive $20 million for his work on the film. Writing the cheques is producer Brian Grazer, who Crowe has worked with on “A Beautiful Mind”, “Cinderella Man” and the upcoming ”American Gangster”.

Do I smell a comeback? …. Or is that just my socks? (and before your ‘Crowe Buffs’ come knocking at our door.. which you always seem to do… much like the Van Damme fans… let me stress again, I love Crowe, I think he’s a terrific actor, and I’m all for him staying on long-term around Hollywood’s parts… )
