Ryan Reynolds playing it Safe

Reynolds has emerged as the frontrunner to star opposite Denzel Washington in the action thriller “Safe House”, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Davis Guggenheim-directed film follows the only surviving agent of an attack on a CIA safe house (Reynolds) as he tries to get a lethal prisoner (Washington) to a second safe house before being taken out by violent forces that want them both dead.

Deadline hears that several other young actors, including “Friday Night Lights” heartthrob Taylor Kitsch, Shia LaBeouf, Zac Efron (!), Chris Pine (“Star Trek”), Garrett Hedlund (“Tron Legacy”) and Sam Worthington, are also in contention. Daniel Espinosa’s script is pretty tight, so no surprise that every cat in town wants to play in it’s litter.

Meanwhile, Robert Schwentke (“Red”) is circling Reynolds-starrer “R.I.P.D”, which, as we reported earlier this week, McG had fortunately abandoned.
