Salma Hayek bringing Wicked to the screen!

Salma Hayek (“Grown Ups”) and ABC are developing an 8-part mini-series based on “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West”, which spawned the Broadway musical. The show won’t feature musical numbers.

According to THR, Erik Jenderson, one of the writers on “Band of Brothers”, is penning the series.

“Wicked”, for those that haven’t seen it, serves as a prequel to the 1939 film “The Wizard of Oz”, telling of the relationship between The Wicked Witch of the West and The Good Witch of the North. Their friendship struggles through their opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, their reactions to the Wizard’s corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba’s public fall from grace.

Hayek is only planning on producing at this stage.
