Schwarzenegger commits to next Terminator!

Biggest news of the day would have to be that Arnold Schwarzenegger has officially attached himself to director Justin Lin’s “Terminator 5” (or whatever it’s called; it’s most likely not going to have a number in the title, is it!?). After his computer-generated cameo in “Terminator Salvation”, it’ll be great to see the Governor front and center again.

Deadline, who broke the news of Schwarzenegger’s commitment to the project, says the film doesn’t have a home yet but that Universal, Sony and Lionsgate are very keen.

Chris Morgan, who has worked with Lin on the past three “Fast & Furious” movies, was recently reported as writing the script for this new “Terminator” but strangely enough Deadline says the project is currently – for lack of a better word – writer-less.

In January, What’s Playing mentioned the possibility of Schwarzenegger doing the new film and included a rumoured plotline.

With The Governator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, having just left his office in California this past week and co-creator and the wonderfully pleasant producer and of The Terminator Gale Anne Hurd reportedly keen to ‘do another one’ (Terminator movie), there’s all sorts of talk out there regarding what form this fifth Terminator movie may take. While I really doubt Arnold will be back (he’s left the franchise behind), I’ve just heard a great rumour : The third-hand bit of gossip has Schwarzenegger playing multiple characters in a new Terminator movie for Universal (who want the franchise) and a certain director known for helming one of their franchises – he’d play both the human who lent his likeness to the Terminator as well ‘hundreds’ of Terminators. I’ve had the good fortune of meeting Arnold a couple of times, the last time in Cannes with producers Mario Kassar and Andy Vajna when they were all promoting T3. .

I think that’s probably the likelihood here – that Schwarzenegger will play the human who lent his likeness to the T-800.

Lin would probably also throw in some other big star to play a Terminator…. maybe, Vin?

You’ll recall I asked Lin whether Diesel might be ‘Terminator-material’ at the recent “Fast Five” junket in Rio.

Justin Lin, the film’s director, was recently reported to be up for directing duties on a new “Terminator” film for Universal, and almost immediately rumours began to swirl – particularly at the junket – that Vin Diesel might be in line for a role in the film. Fair assumption, after all, Vin and Justin are not only good friends but they’ve now worked together several times (if you include Vin’s cameo in “Tokyo Drift”) and are already planning to work together again.

While Lin is open to the idea of his “Fast” lead taking on Skynet, the only person he has approached so far about “Terminator 5” is Arnold Schwarzenegger. Still, it’s not out of the question.

“Vin’s been a really great partner on this franchise”, Lin says of the duo’s involvement in the “Fast” series. “We’ve talked about the mythology [of the Terminator series]…[pause] he’s a great guy and a great actor. I really like working with him so anything I do I usually talk to him about. Sometimes we even talk about going back and doing a little indy movie.”

So can we expect Vin in “T5” or not!?

“You never know”, says an unrevealing Lin.

You know what would be great? If they could work out a way to reincorporate Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese back into the series!

More news on “T5” as we hear it!
