Sean Hood has written Rambo 5; Should Stallone do it?

A couple of years back Sylvester Stalllone said he’d be making a fifth and final “Rambo” movie – following the success of 2008’s “Rambo”. At one stage the script had sort of a science-fiction element written into it (something about ‘Crystal Skulls’ and a UFO?), and later, Sly mentioned something about a possibly plot involving human traffiking in Mexico. None of those ideas sounded very intriguing; if anything, we want a story about what happens to John Rambo (Stallone) when he returns home (he came home at the end of the last film; fade to black as he made his way up his father’s driveway) and how hard it is for him to settle back down to a life that doesn’t include a daily ritutal of plucking bullets out of your abdomen.
Alas, Stallone said he wouldn’t be pursuing “Rambo 5″‘, the big guy came to the conclusion that the story was nicely tied up back in the final few minutes of the fourth film.

Empire talked to “Conan the Barbarian” writer Sean Hood who said he’d just written a script for a film called “Rambo : Last Stand”. Is Sly doing it? No, but he and Millennium films hope he will.

“I met with Mr Stallone twice last year,” Sean tells us. “He gave me a book, an older screenplay, and about twenty pages he’d written himself to use as inspiration for the last chapter of the Rambo saga.”

Hood won’t say which book has inspired his script but hints that the film will be closer in tone to the first ‘Rambo’ flick.

“It’s more in line with the small-town thriller of First Blood,” says Sean.

Hood points out that the film might not happen, but suggests the powers-that-be will be poking him in the hope they can get him to change his mind about reprising Rambo a fifth and final time.

“As of now, I don’t know whether Mr Stallone will actually do it. Right now, as I understand it, he has his hands full with Bullet to the Head and Expendables 2. But Millennium films did hire me to complete the screenplay and realise his story, and my hope is that he’ll eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film, with the tone of Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven.”
