Shirley MacLaine takes the mother lode in Walter Mitty remake

Gotta love Shirley MacLaine. Like big brother Warren Beatty, Shirl still looks a treat and is still summoning up the ghost of performance great with each and every role she takes on (which, sadly, for both of them isn’t many these days).

Shirley’s given as some of the most memorable movie mothers in history, from Aurora Greenway in “Terms of Endearment” (1982) to fallen dance mama Deedee in “The Turning Point” (1977), and now she’s about to add another matriarch to her charactergraphy.

The 77-year-old will play Ben Stller’s mother in Fox’s long-gestating “Secret Life of Walter Milly” remake (a film that’s gone through many incarnations since first announced; at one stage Jim Carrey was starring, then Owen Wilson, now Stiller..) says Deadline, which funnyman Stiller is also directing.

The original Danny Kaye “Mitty” is a bonafide classic, and what worked it for was the casting, if Stiller and MacLaine are anything to go by, the remake seems just as blessed.

Been some OK remakes lately, don’t you think? Is there any that you guys think have turned out especially [and surprisingly] well?
