Showgirls 2 takes the floor

The new Lighthouse Films media fund, which has been launched by the Munich-based Lighthouse Structured Finance GmbH, has announced a sequel to the cult turkey "Showgirls", yup, the film that sent Paul Verhoeven screaming from la la land.

According to Screen Daily, Brad Krevoy and Donald Kushner will produce the long-awaited (laugh it up, laugh it up) sequel for Junction Films.

Original director Verhoeven actually had an idea for a follow-up a few years back. "Believe me, there were plans for a Showgirls 2! It’s called Bimbo’s", the director said recently. "Joe [Eszterhas, the writer] and I seriously discussed it at one point. When the movie turned out the way it did, we made a treatment for a sequel, just for fun. Joe came up with the title; Bimbo’s: Nomi goes Hollywood. But nobody wanted to do it…"

No word on whether it’ll be Elizabeth Berkley swinging about on the slippery pole – mind out of the gutter, now! – again, but she seems to be about as busy as a department store Santa at the moment, so she may very well be keen.
