Someone’s apparently seen Thor

With TRON no longer in the machine to take care of security, a succession of “Thor” movie spoilers have leaked onto the net.

Superhero Hype (via Comic Book Movie) have a list of moments-to-look-for-in-the-film, provided by an insider who has reportedly seen the film (It has been test screened so it’s likely this is legit).

Those spoilers are here, but what I’m more interested in is this chap’s verdict of the film and I’m sure I’m not alone.

“Thor” isn’t exactly Superman, Batman or even Iron Man so it’s going to have to work for it’s audience more because many cinemagoers – believe it or not – won’t be familiar with the hammer-yielding Avenger. But more so, besides Anthony Hopkins, the film isn’t popular by huge marquee names; the lead role, for instance, is played by a relatively-unknown Aussie. Sure, Chris Hemsworth looks the part, but he’s no Robert Downey Jr, so the audience is already a lot thinner than “Iron Man”. But Marvel are yet to disappoint (regardless of what some say about “Iron Man 2” it was still a very entertaining blockbuster) and always insist on making the best film possible; I really don’t believe they’re going to let “Thor” be the exception.

Seems “Thor”, directed by Kenneth Branagh and starring Cowes’ own Chris Hemsworth in the lead, is a bit of a mixed bag. For starters, it’s going to disappoint some purists :

“From what I remember we only see the helmet during the flashback scene at the beginning of the film”, says the insider “Nope… Thor doesn’t wear the helmet at the end.”

The dialogue is also a bit vanilla.

“Nothing really stands out with the dialogue…except the “What you consider magic is science to us” or however the quote goes in the trailer.”

The chemistry between Hemsworth and Natalie Portman, playing the token love interest, isn’t ostensible.

“The romance bits. The comedy was fine…but I wanted the “intimate” scenes between Thor and Portman to end quickly”

But look, it’s only January and “Thor” isn’t due in theaters until May – this would’ve been a very early cut of the film the scooper saw and I dare say, having heard the complaints, Branagh will go back to the editing room to fix what doesn’t work – be it the romantic stuff or even ‘add a helmet’.

But on that last bit, Hemsworth told Moviehole last year that a film like this can’t and won’t be made just for the stringent fans of the comic – you have to think of the other demographics, and heck, maybe they want to see a bit of smooching.

”You’ve got to look after the fans, but you’ve got to make the film appealing to audiences outside of the fan base too. You can’t think about it too much though. You sort of simplify it and just do the best you can and respectful of what already exists, take it to where you’re trying to go with it.”
