Sony remaking Jumanji, sequelizing 21 Jump Street, Men in Black 4, Amazing Spider-Man 2

Seemingly convinced roman numerals are where the main still lies, Sony have announced a string of sequels and remakes for the upcoming 12-24 months ahead.

Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, studio prez Doug Belgrad let slip a few titles.

Firstly, as previously mooted, there’s a sequel to “21 Jump Street” in the works. Now I liked this, so I’m not complaining about having my 36’s raped. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill will reprise their roles as the good-looking and “cherub-looking mother-fucker” for a sequel to shoot in the Fall.

Also one from the ‘not surprising’ pile, “Men in Black 4”. The third flick, despite being written on the fly and stitched together like Frankenweenie in the editing suite later, was a huge success so the company has demanded another from the dudes-in-shades. “We’re very pleased with the financial performance of Men in Black 3, and we believe it is an ongoing franchise. We’re going to do [another one], but we don’t have clarity yet on how it should be done”, Belgrad said.

There’s also an “Amazing Spider-Man” sequel on the drawing board. But don’t expect original director Marc Webb to return – cos, um, he’s not. Claiming “obstacles” are the reason for Webb’s non-involvement, Belgrad says “We’d really like him back, but there are obstacles. He has an obligation to Fox. [Webb owes Fox a post-(500) Days of Summer film.]”

One of the remakes that the company are looking at doing is “Jumanji”, the 1996 comedy starring Robin Williams, Bonnie Hunt and a pre-wet-T-Shirt Kirsten Dunst. “We’re going to try and re-imagine Jumanji and update it for the present” he says, no doubt hinting at the inclusion of some form of ‘computerized’ version of the board-game that ‘stars’ in the film.
